Review: Seche Ultra V Top Coat

When I first saw this product at my local Sally's I was curious to try it but would look at the price, pick up my regular top coat (Seche Vite) and leave. Recently though I had a 20% off coupon and I decided that it was time to take the plunge and see if it was worth the fuss; so here it goes:

This is a two step process:
First you need to paint your nails and use the Ultra V formula topcoat.
Second you cure the topcoat with the UV light that you purchase seperately.

The overall effect gives you shiny (almost mirror like) nails that look more like gels than nail polish. The curing (takes three mins) sets the polish no matter how thick you paint it on and gives a pretty durable finish. I went 7 days with just tip wear and on the 8th I got a chip.

By no means is this a necessity for anyone to have but it is great if you like gadgets, or the way acrylics look with out the damage to your nails!

Just so you know, this removes very easily with nail polish remover and felt or a cotton square. For more details you can check out the video at the end of the post. The last 20 second or so show you a snapshot of my nails each day to see the wear.

  1. I am curious about the shrinkage. Did you notice any? I would buy this in a heartbeat if it cures the shrinkage that I get with the regular seche topcoat.

  4. My nails are really thin and my manicurist has been using OPI Axxium UV nail polish. It gives my nails enough strength that they actually grow and don't break at all. I really like it but I'd like to be able to do touch ups at home. Have you tried Axxium, is this UV top coat similar? Thanks! Meg

  5. Meg: I haven't tried Axxium but this is no where near as thick as a regular gel nail polish. It has the consistancy of a very thin, shiny, topcoat. I don't think that it would work the same though...

  7. Can you use it with any nail polish though or does it have to be a uv gel polish?

  8. Nika: the top coat is UV but not gel and you can use it with any polish.

  10. hi there, i just saw this seche vite stuff yesterday in my local sally, im only now just dicovering about uv polish (youd think with my collection i would have been using this the minute it was invented). anyway i was wondering if you know, can you use any uv light with any uv polish/shellac? ive never used a seche vite product before. i actually dont use topcoats.. yes, i know, terrible, if i paint my nails at dinnertime they are already chipped when i wake up. im just too impatient for all the layers. but if this is as amazing as it seems, and will finally let me have nice nails for more than a day (how long does it last anyhow? im gonna watch the vid now) then ill totally spring for the more expensive uv light and that seche topcoat

  11. Michelle: Yes, you can use any UV light. For me it was in the right place at the right time. I'm not one to search around to find something! lol

  14. This was the worst product ever. You are better off using Seche Vite and not buying a uv light like I did. It cured in the 36Watt light for 3 mins. just like it says and then still an hour later still not completely dry I messed up ever nail after that. Took off my polish and redid it with Seche Vite and in 20 mins was washing dishes. No messes or messed up nails.
